Each person gets a different massage. Each person experiences their massage differently. There can be no guarantees but I don’t think you will be disappointed. If I am not your perfect therapist I will help you find an other therapist who may meet your needs or expatiations better. Enjoy.
All of my clients are referred to me by someone they know. There is no other recommendation better. And because of that, this page is sort of pointless. I had kept it here as an ego boost for myself but it is so old it no longer reflects for me. I'm actually a little embarrassed. Until I figure out what to do here you are welcome to an archeological dig of what people thought of me when I was starting out.

John gives the kind of treatment I have been dreaming of for the last ten years but never knew existed. He is not only a doctor* but an artist. My rotator cuff has found relief and hope.
-Dr.John O.A. Pagano, Chiropractic Physician *(I am not a doctor! But thank you for the flattery -John Ellsworth)
John, an angel with magic hands, has amazing skills and healing energy. My back pain was 90% relieved after only fifteen minutes. He surpasses any praise I could give him.
-Rami, Receptionist
I met John while I was the manager of Stone Spa in New York City, a high profile day spa with awards and featured articles in Time Out, Vogue, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, etc. John was the lead therapist there and was responsible for training, promotion, representing the staff and was the most requested therapist we had. What we did not pay him for was fostering an environment among the employees at Stone Spa that was supportive, loving, warm, and most importantly fun. His work is excellent - his is the best massage I have ever had and his open, sensitive personality can calm the most nervous client and make them relax into his healing skills. Even though I spend all day in a spa with great therapists, when my body is in real trouble it’s time for John. I can not recommend him highly enough.
-Kim Hartwell, Spa Manager / Soho Sanctuary
Dear John, Thank you for giving me the kind of massage experience that I always hope for. Being a massage therapist, I find myself often slightly disappointed with the practitioners lack of focus and attention to detail. Your work was none of that! It was deep, and attentive to my specific areas of concern. I appreciate your encouragement of my emotional release, and found myself trusting your hands because of the wonderful compassion that emanates from you. I slept soundly that night, and my "dancer" body feels well-oiled! Thank you.
-Fay Simpson, L.M.T. #002520 Artistic Director / Impact Theatre
John is a super star.
-Adam Schwartz, L.M.T. Owner / Stone Spa
As an opera singer I consider John's work an essential part of my routine keeping my body in top performance condition. For example the work he does on my neck, head, shoulders, and back helps keep my soft palate, lungs, tongue and diaphragm flexible so that my breath is relaxed and optimal and my sound can flow freely. Also, John rocks.
-Katharine Goeldner, Opera Star
John is a very experienced and instinctive massage therapist. His extensive knowledge of the body‘s systems allow him to work with a wide range of clients. I send him clients that need to be “fixed" movement wise, clients with chronic injuries needing relief from pain, and clients with everyday restrictions. I myself am very particular of who I go to and have come to use John as my only massage therapist.
-Kim Kuznitz, Owner / Bent Pilates Studio
WOW! The most amazing massage I have ever had. John is so thorough, treating each muscle specifically. Being a Massage Therapist myself I am exceptionally expecting of a massage. I am usually disappointed, having to go to several therapists to get what I need to keep my body working smoothly. Finally I found John. Thank you!
-Naomi, L.M.T.
John is strong medicine. He has both incredible physical ability as well as sensitivity to my needs in each moment. I felt safe, held, listened to, and loved. John is capable of helping me experience things that are uncomfortable in a safe way. If you want to push your envelope a little further open John can help you. If you need a refuge John can help you find that grounding place of peace. All you have to do is express your intent and he will help you realize it. John is just plain good. He has been an inspiration and actually sort of a role model for me. I completely respect and admire him.
-Chris Brittain, Expressive Arts Therapist
I am picky. I am picky because I know what I like and I like the best. This is why I love getting massages from John Ellsworth. He has given me the best deep massage that I have ever gotten in my life, and I've gotten quite a few. Being a massage therapist myself, that is saying quite a bit. John has worked on the base of my skull and the bottom of my foot at the same time. Oh yes, it is possible, and John is the only person that I know that has done it. You see, he has the awareness and competency to actually do things like that. If I was taller, I'd have stolen quite a few moves from him, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. He can and will make you feel connected, head to toe, mind, body, and soul.

I have been seeing John Ellsworth for a monthly hot stone massage for a little over 2 years now. John made me completely comfortable during my first massage because he possesses an amazing intuitive sense; my level of trust has been growing ever since. I love the feeling of the smooth, hot stones as they are passed over my skin deeply warming the muscles and making them easily responsive. John’s skilled technique using the stones in combination with his strong hands and arms always leaves me thoroughly relaxed, rejuvenated and refreshed. John’s calm manner and passion for what he does is evident because every massage feels like it’s the first one. I have never felt indifferent energy on John’s table. He asks me questions each time before we start to determine if I have any special concerns at that moment and proceeds to work his magic. I highly recommend John to all my friends and anyone interested in receiving the best therapeutic massage!

John Ellsworth is a true professional, consistently giving excellent, effective and sensitive care. I have often gone into sessions feeling completely frozen in my upper back, tingling in my arms, disconnected from my legs and totally burnt out on Ibuprofen. In a one hour massage, John somehow manages to put me back together in a way that makes me feel like my limbs and back and neck and head are all integrated and part of one moving, healthy body. I also feel a great sense of well being and renewed energy after having him work on me. He is the antidote for city living.

I have a PhD in neurophysiology, a post-doctorate in engineering, have taught anatomy and physiology at the college level for years and now work in forensic consulting for law cases involving injuries. I also am John Ellsworth's father and have been enormously impressed with my son's knowledge and understanding of the human body. Throughout his training we spoke often on the phone and felt more like I was talking to a medical student than a massage therapist. On a recent visit home, John gave me my first massage and it was enormously helpful to me, physically and spiritually. My body felt rested and my spirit at peace. John's massage is the perfect balance of technique and emotion. His awareness of me as a patient was sensitive, never intrusive and completely respectful. UPDATE Nine years after John first asked me for a review I spoke with him about a persistent leg pain I attributed to a failing hip joint even though it presented in my knee. The pain had been escalating for years until it hurt just to stand. John spent two hours working on an area covering only five square inches, the tibialis anterior of my left leg. While the massage itself was excruciating, the pain I had been experiencing departed completely for over a month and when it returned it was only a faint echo of the original. If I had only known such relief was available I would have asked for it years ago. John's diagnostic skills and treatment go far beyond what I have considered possible for massage.
